As I’ve said in a previous article, Astrology is in the fourth of the four worlds. Above astrology is the place of your soul, and above that, increasing unity. Beyond everything, is the Endless.
You’ll understand pretty quickly what that what all this means for you in a few more paragraphs. If you want more context, check out the previous article.
Let’s explore the place of the soul, of astrology, and of this physical world.
| Part of you | Part of the spiritual worlds |
| Soul | Upper worlds |
| Astrological influence | The planets, upper part of the world of action |
| Body | Earth, lower part of the world of action |
We can affect our body by choosing our actions.
In fact, according to kabbalah and Chassidus, we can control more than just our actions. They focus on thought, speech, and action.
We might not be able to control the thoughts that come into our mind necessarily, but we get to decide if we want to keep thinking them. Redirecting our negative or unhelpful thoughts, simply changing them, is a technique encouraged by both psychology and the sages.
Our soul is the source of our choice. We don’t have an effect on our soul as much as our soul has an effect on us.
Now let’s bring this all together before concluding.
Astrology’s influence is somewhere in between the soul and the body
People sometimes argue about what astrology says about our free will. For me, it’s quite simple. Astrology can affect the body regardless of our will, but our will is based in the soul, which is above and beyond the influence of astrology.
So an astrological transit (when a planet in the sky right now affects the imprint of another planet in your chart) could affect your body. If mars hitting something in your chart could cause a rash. But you get to decide what to do about that rash.
A negative transit to your mercury, moon, or sun could cause negative thoughts. But as we explored above, you can choose whether to redirect you mind to new thoughts.
But what if there’s something in your chart that always seems to be holding you back? Maybe mars opposing saturn? That will always be there bothering you.
How to Overcome Negativity in Your Chart, now that you Know where Astrology affects You
You have two options, and they are not exclusive. In fact, you should do both.
One is spiritual and the other is material.
Spiritual Contemplation
The spiritual answer is that you can transcend your chart. There are two primary ways. The first is communication with something above the realm of astrology. One option is contemplation on the divine or meditation, if that is part of your current spiritual path. Even higher than your soul is the Endlessness. Communicating your difficulties and appreciation to the Creator can result in help bypassing astrology completely.
It can be more complicated than it seems though, as western styles of prayer can hold you back. This is worthy of its own blog, but I’ll give you the fundamentals right now.
When you are meditating or praying, remember that the goal is contemplation, not asking. In fact, we shouldn’t “pray” in the literal sense at all. The definition of “pray” is to ask. Think about how Shakespeare uses the word, “I pray thee,” means I ask you.
Of course you can ask the Creator for whatever you want. But the fundamental goal is to change your own mind, not change the Creator’s. This is why what really works is contemplating and communicating with the Divine. Real prayer, if you want to call it that, is closer to a spoken meditation than what we call prayer in the western world.
This is spiritual contemplation, self discovery and improvement with Divine help.
I see that the energy of negative stars is affecting my body, my animal mind, and my ability to accomplish my mission in the world. How can I overcome that?
Just contemplate these questions in the presence of the Divine and you might find your mind filling with solutions. Write them down. Think about them more. Then, transfer them into thought, speech, and action.
Learning how Your Chart Influences Your Body, and Adjusting
If you spend a lot of time in astrological circles, you will hear people talking about how difficult placements like squares or malefics can be converted into strengths.
A square in a birth chart changes from a point of struggle to a source of energy. A saturn influence shifts from a weak point where you feel dragged down, into a lesson that, once learned, makes you more effective.
This is adjusting to your own chart. This is using your chart as a pathway to growth.
This is seeing your chart as a personal mission.
This obviously needs further explanation, but this article is already long enough. I will cover these ideas in further blogs, and offer practical solutions to move forward.
What to do Next
Seeing Where You want to be, and where You are.
You can start spiritually. Look at incongruities between where you are and where you want to be. Think about what you see as your most healthy version of life and self. Write that down in a journal. Begin with a spiritually healthy vision in mind.
Then, think about where you are right now. Don’t worry about where you want to be, or where you were last month. Be present. Meditate on your life and current state of things if you’d like to.
You can add insights from astrology now too. Take a look at your birth chart. Consider squares, oppositions, planets in detriment, and saturn and mars. Think about where in your life you see those energies holding you back.
Next, you want to bridge the gap. A good tool for this is the spiritual contemplation I explored with you above. Or, you can simply think things through. This would be using your intelligent mind, the nefesh hasichli, to organize your way forward.
Connecting the Dots, Connecting the Stars. Moving from where You are to where You Want to Be
I would start with your spiritual contemplation. Try speaking the contemplation out just loud enough for you to hear. This can be worked into a nature walk, if you have such a practice, or you can find a quiet place in your house or car.
When you’re done, take a pen you like and a journal and write down your insights.
You can then try contemplating what you’ve written, reopening communication with the Creator and seeing if your insights can reach an even higher level. Or you can sleep on it, allowing your inner world to integrate the insights from you conscious mind to your unconscious.
Then, you turn your insights into actions. Look at your journal, or maybe your second journal if you’ve slept on it and/or done further contemplation to refine your initial thoughts.
Take each insight and list 1-3 actions you can take to bring you closer to a solution.
Try them out.
Then, see if you’ve gotten closer to where you want to be in life. Have you gotten any closer to spiritual enlightenment? Look at which actions got you closer. Expand that.
Look at which actions didn’t do much, or set you behind. Think. If it was because some of these actions are things like working out to get in shape, or brushing your teeth, then maybe it just takes time. Keep those actions.
If they aren’t going to go anywhere after a consistent month or two, then drop them from your program. Maybe they’ll find their place later down the line, maybe not.
Taking a Breather
From here you should rest. Rest is just as important to productivity as work. Try deep rest, without screens. Walking, journaling, meditating, reading. Something where you participate in the rest and really heal from the inside.
Then, you can repeat the process. Spiritual contemplation, look at your astrology and your struggles. Think of solutions. Do more of what works. Continue what takes time. Hold off on what isn’t helping.
And maybe when you’re done, I’ll have some more insights for you.
